Ericsson 4 power away at the start of leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race from Cape Town, South Africa to Cochin, India

The Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Starting from Alicante in Spain, on 4 October 2008, it will, for the first time, take in Cochin, India, Singapore and Qingdao, China before finishing in St Petersburg, Russia for the first time in the history of the race. Spanning some 37,000 nautical miles, visiting 11 ports over nine months, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier ocean yacht race for professional racing crews.

The fleet park up in Table Bay as the winds drops at the start of leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race from Cape Town, South Africa to Cochin, India

The Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Ericsson 4 best ut

Starten av 2. etappe av Volvo Ocean Race ble svært spennende.

Det var friskt ut fra start. Tilskuerarmadaen lagde litt trøbbel for båtene helt i starten, men farten var så høy at nærmest ingen klarte å følge med. Puma hadde en knall start og seilet klart best ut fra start, og holdt en fart på 26 knop.

Inn i stilla

Etter en slør og en kryss seilte båtene seg inn i stilla. Det ble bråstopp for Puma i tet, og feltet ble helt samlet. Vinden var i ferd med å snu. Det samme skjedde i 2001. Da gikk de fleste båtene inn mot land for å få litt termisk vind, mens Swedish Match gikk rett ut til havs og kom først ut i stabil vind.

Best ved land
Puma gikk for langt ut fra land. Ericsson 4 klarte å holde farten i båten, uten å ta for mange slag eller seilskift. Team Russia prøvde å gå ut, men tapte stort på det. Selv om båtene lå tett ut fra start vil det skille mye nær båtene kommer ut i stabil vind.

Ved første plasseringsrapport leder Ericsson 4 foran Telefonica Blue og Green Dragon. Ericsson 3 ligger som båt fire foran Puma, Telefonica Black og Delta Lloyd. Team Russia ligger langt bak.
